Problems With Insects During The Season

Each season brings particular challenges to insects and diseases. The weather and pests change according to the season.

Some pest controls spray like warmer temperatures and will be most active during summer and spring, while other pests are more active in winter when they seek shelter out of the frigid winter air.

Because most pests find their way into well-known areas and are accustomed to their routines, it is possible to stay only a step or two ahead of the issue.

Spring

The season of spring is one of beginnings and new life due to the boost of temperatures, melting of ice, and the blossoming of flowers.

The time of spring is when the majority of insects are awakening and mating. Here are some spring pests to keep an eye for:

  • Termites – Each spring, termites move out of their nests to breed and create new colonies. This is known as “swarming”. Termites travel in mass as the warm spring weather arrives, usually following a rainy day.
  • Ants – Certain species of ants are known to forage for food during the summer months. In the event of rain, ants are forced away from their colonies and into their homes in search of shelter.
  • Flies – Flies receive maturity in the springtime, at the start of spring. When they are mature, they’ll move to the areas where humans live to search for food sources. They like liquids, as well as sweets.
  • Moths – The majority of indoor-infesting moths are attracted to your house because it is a perfect location for eggs to hatch and eat on many household objects. They love eating any dry products, such as clothes, chocolate, nuts and flour, curtains, and even curtains.
  • Stinging insects: Stinging insects such as wasps, bees, yellow jackets, and hornets come out of their sleep and are more active during the springtime.
  • Bed bugs – While bed bugs can be found all year round, they are a problem; their population is likely to increase during springtime due to more frequent travel during Spring Break and Easter at schools.

Summer

As the warmer months are approaching, outdoor and indoor pests typically begin breeding and feeding.

The summer months are typically a respite from the ravaging pests and insects that seek shelter inside your home because the life cycles of pests are getting older and less of an issue.

Here are a few of the most common pests that are found in the summer months:

  • Mosquitoes thrive in the warmer months because of the heat, which accelerates their growth and allows them to produce more eggs within a smaller period.
  • Stinging insects like bees, wasps, and other stinging insects are most active in summer due to the presence of water that has accumulated from springtime. Their season begins in spring. However, it is at its highest during summer. Their bites can be extremely painful. For those with particular allergies, they could cause death.
  • Cockroaches: Summer is the time for breeding cockroaches, and this is the reason they’re so abundant at this time of year.
  • Flies: The Flies are most active during summer because that is when they are at the peak season for breeding.

Fall

The fall season is a period to prepare enough pests to prepare for the cold winter months that are coming. Many species will search for warm and protected areas.

  1. Cockroaches: Cockroaches are a few of the most prevalent fall-related pests. Cockroaches can’t survive in colder temperatures, and the time of year when they appear is when they move into the house, seeking warmth and shelter.
  2. Spiders – When temperatures drop, there will be an influx of spiders as your home provides plenty of places for them to build nests. They also reproduce in the fall, so the activity of spiders will be boosted when males search for companions.
  3. Stink Bugs — Stink Bugs are renowned for their unpleasant-smelling liquid, which they expel as a defensive method or when they are afraid of being attacked.

Winter

The winter months are a time of hibernation and survival for insects. Pests do not like cold winter weather and will not survive when it’s too cold. Some pests prefer shelter outdoors, while others seek shelter inside.

  • Rodents – As temperatures start to fall, rodents are the most frequent pests we see during winter. Rats, as well as squirrels, mice, and rats, can enter our homes looking for a warm area, as well as a large amount of water and food.
  • Cockroaches: Some cockroaches are still active at this time of the year and look for dark, damp areas.
  • Bed Bugs – Traveling around the holiday season can increase bedbug activity, and also because they can be difficult to identify.

Clean outside

Clean up thoroughly both outside and inside of your home to avoid insects! Take yard debris out of your house and outbuildings on a regular basis.

Make sure to keep your yard in good condition regularly to prevent overgrowth along fences and flower beds close to doorways and windows.

Be sure to limit the amount of standing water in your yard because that is where mosquitoes breed and thrive.

Clean up your trash regularly and make an effort to put it away from your house. The trash can attract insects, bees, flies, and cockroaches due to the possibility of spills and food waste. Your trash containers must have lids that fit tightly.

Instant and fresh

Clean up your kitchen, and then get rid of any leftovers. Insects will enter your home to search for sources of food; therefore, even the smallest amount of crumbs on your floor or counter will draw insects.

Particularly when the weather is extremely hot, they’ll enter your home looking for protection and water.

Be sure to clean the counters and sweep your floors every day. Do not leave food on the counter. Place it in airtight containers, and then store the food items in a safe place.
